Where It Started
Ms Eileen Tan didn't set out to build a method. She set out to teach — in preschools, in enrichment centres, anywhere a child needed someone patient enough to notice how they actually learn.
Over sixteen years, she taught children with special needs and children years ahead of their peers — sometimes in the same room. She wrote curriculum for well-known Singapore childcare centres and coached children through the MOE English syllabus, worksheet by worksheet.
A Different Question
Most children who struggled with English weren't struggling because they weren't trying. No one had explained why. Why this word breaks the rule. Why this sentence needs a comma.
They'd been taught to memorise — and memorising only gets a child so far.
So Eileen changed the question: not "can you remember this?" but "do you understand why this is true?" The shift was small. The results weren't. Children who'd been told they "just weren't readers" started decoding words on their own.
"As an advocate for young children, I believe in empowering them to build confidence and creativity through English literacy. Every child has the potential to succeed when we believe in them." — Ms Eileen Tan, Founder
Building The Lit Adventure
That question — why, not just what — became the Transformational Literacy Approach™. Certified in art therapy, Eileen also began weaving emotional expression into writing lessons, so children could feel a story before writing one.
The Lit Adventure is a home for that method — small enough that no child gets lost, considered enough that nothing is taught without a reason.
Her Vision
A place where every child — at whichever pace they learn — is truly seen, believed in, and given the tools to find their own voice. Not just a better grade. Real, lasting understanding, and the confidence that comes with it.
